Why seek licensed massage therapy? Most states have a professional board that regulates those that perform massage and other body works within their borders. They require therapists to have special training for a given number of hours at certified massage therapy schools. Many require therapists to take follow up training every year or two to retain their license. With the license from the state, you have a level of assurance that the person performing the massage knows what they are doing. Some states do not require licensing of massage therapists, however. In those cases, how do you find a good one?

Some therapists advertise certified massage therapy instead of licensed massage therapy. In states with regulatory boards, it is important to verify they have a license to practice. However, in those states without such boards, finding one with certification is a good sign. The question to ask is who provided their certification. A few boards provide certification for massage therapists. One is the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork or NCBTMB. With their certification, you get someone who has completed at least 500 hour of training, demonstrate the required skill sets, pass a standard test, and go through continuing education to retain their certification. Many states use their exam as the state standard for licensing.

When you combine licensed massage therapy and certified massage therapy, you are dealing with a professional dedicated to the work. That is the ideal situation. Think about it. You are asking that person to perform muscle massage on your body. If someone is unqualified, they can do damage. The wrong movement or pressing in the wrong area can be painful. Why take the chance? Find someone who knows their craft and takes pride in their work. In the long run, it pays to find a professional instead of an amateur.

There are varied types of massage. Most therapists train in one or more extensively. Once you find someone who practices both licensed massage therapy and certified massage therapy, ask that person for what types of massage he or she specializes in. Deep tissue therapists may not be a good choice for someone who is sensitive to pressure. However, many therapists offer different types of massage. Some integrate other practices such as aromatherapy and reiki into their work. They provide a full range of services for those looking for an excellent way to relax and de-stress.

Becoming a massage therapist is not an easy task. You are required to have special training and an area of expertise. Before becoming a therapist invasive schooling is needed as well as training. There are specific standards that differ from state to state and can be extremely difficult. A requirement of a massage therapist is that they have a love for what they do. They must be able to communicate well with others and be able to provide others with pleasure. They can make a good living and provide you with useful information. Many places in the United States are hiring because massages are becoming more and more popular.

Before entering into this field the first things you should do is choose the area in which you will be practicing. This is important because some states have higher standards than others. In most states however, you need a graduation certificate from an accredited school and hours of on-the-job training. The amount of hours necessary will also vary among states. In many circumstances you will be required to receive a certificate from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. This board is much like that of healthcare. An administered tested will be taken and a certificate will be received upon passing. You can specialize in a specific area of massage therapy, or become a master of them all.

Another key part of becoming a massage therapist is a love for the job. Some people find out during schooling that this is not something they love to do. Others may find it tiring or tedious. The main factor that drags people away from this field is the communication level that you must acquire with your patients. You must know when to speak and when to allow them to relax. This may be hard for some people because they may like to speak their mind or consider not carrying on a conversation rude. These things will be taught to you during your classes but still it is not for everyone.

The salary for this type of profession can also vary. It has been reported that massage therapist can make anywhere from $10,000 to $70,000. Salary will depend on how many hours are worked, where you are practicing, the techniques you offer and your qualification level. A six figure salary can be achieved by owning your own parlor. If you work full time, have experience, offer a variety of massages and operate in the right areas you will most likely make a good living.

This field is growing by the minute. To get the best information about a career in this area it is recommended that you look into your state guidelines. Being qualified is the most important aspect of the. With the proper schooling and a love for helping others the possibilities in this field are endless. Many places are hiring and the opportunity should not be passed up. If you love helping people relax this could be a great profession for you.

Reflexology Massage Therapy Can Treat Tinnitus In Bradenton And Sarasota Fl

Patients suffering from tinnitus can be treated through reflexology massage therapy in therapeutic massage spas in Bradenton and Sarasota FL.

Mary Martin, founder of the Association of Reflexologists and of her own School of Reflexology, has case studies of her own tinnitus patients treated successfully with reflexology.

According to Martin, patients with tinnitus hear sounds such as ringing, whistling, buzzing, hissing or even roaring in one or both ears or in their heads. Depending on the case, these sounds can be constant or can come and go. The level of the sound also varies in each individual. It interferes greatly with normal life and can lead to insomnia and depression. In many cases, tinnitus is accompanied by deafness.

Martin states that although tinnitus is not visible and patients often do not show any outward signs of their suffering, people with tinnitus need much courage in bearing the affliction.

Among the possible causes of tinnitus are complications from secretory otitis media in children; ear infections or inflammations; Menière’s disease; Otosclerosis; disorders of blood vessels in the head; high doses of certain drugs such as quinine, aspirin and selected antibiotics; severely impacted wax; and long-term exposure to extremely loud noise such as music from earphones, the noise of pneumatic drills and other prolonged noises. One of the most important triggers, however, is stress.

While Martin recommends consulting an ear-nose-throat (ENT) medical specialist, she points out that there is often no medical cure for tinnitus. Instead, a masking device is usually prescribed. This is like a hearing aid, except that it emits its own noise intended to distract the patient from the sound of tinnitus. Not all patients take to it, though.

Martin presents the case of her 43-year-old female patient who could not be helped by several doctors in seven years because her tinnitus was caused by stress. She also suffered from extreme anxiety and had panic attacks. Her condition was progressively getting worse. After the second reflexology treatment, the tinnitus stopped. After the third treatment, a slight ringi

ng returned but also stopped before the day ended. The same happened after the fourth treatment. After the sixth treatment, the tinnitus was totally eliminated. Her panic attacks were also resolved. She became more relaxed and was definitely happier.

Martin’s other tinnitus patient was a 22-year-old male who had been experiencing high-pitched noise in both ears especially at night for three months. As a result, he could not sleep well. Medical tests, however, came out negative. Once again, the root cause was stress since he had just come from a problematic relationship. The patient was getting depressed. After the second reflexology treatment, the ringing noise decreased, remaining only slightly in the left ear and enabling him to get better sleep. After five treatments, the tinnitus was completely cured. He also became more relaxed and more optimistic about his life.

According to Martin, a large part of the success of the reflexology treatments could be attributed to the discussion of the patients’ problems, providing a venue for the relief of stress which was the root cause of their tinnitus. She points out that most doctors do not give enough importance to the therapeutic benefits of listening closely to their patients. Martin, on the other hand, puts great value in establishing a good relationship with her patients in therapy, endeavoring to provide them not only with care but also with encouragement and self-empowerment. She declares that reflexology eliminates stress and brings about a positive state of emotions and sense of well-being that gives patients the ability to resolve their affliction.

Even after successful treatment with reflexology massage therapy, patients and their families can also enjoy deep tissue massage therapy, Swedish massage therapy, sports massage therapy and pregnancy massage therapy at therapeutic massage spas in Bradenton and Sarasota FL.

Anyone who has experienced frozen shoulder knows how debilitating it can be with excruciating pain. It leaves you helplessly unable to do even simple tasks. You are, therefore, left unproductive for up to several months at times. Frozen shoulder can be prevented, though, and its pain can be eased by massage therapy at a professional therapeutic massage spa that offers reflexology massage therapy, deep tissue massage therapy, sports massage therapy, Swedish massage therapy and pregnancy massage therapy in Anonka County, Minneapolis, St Paul and Blaine MN.

Medically, frozen shoulder is called adhesive capsulitis. It involves the shoulder capsule which is the connective tissue around the shoulder joint. Inflammation of the shoulder capsule creates adhesions which are abnormally fused bands of tissue. This results in chronic pain and a drastic reduction in one’s range of motion.

Frozen shoulder has three stages. In stage one, or the freezing stage, the pain sets in gradually. This can take from six weeks to nine months. The end of the period is also the peak point of the pain. By then, motion has been lost totally. Stage two or the frozen stage then begins. It is also called the adhesive stage. The shoulder remains stiff for the next four to nine months during which the pain very gradually improves. Stage two ends and stage three begins when there is the barest return of mobility. Stage three is the thawing stage wherein there is a very gradual return to one’s normal range of motion. This can last for five months or even more than three years in certain cases.

The pain of a frozen shoulder is described as a dull ache that intensifies and erupts into sudden spasms when one makes certain movements. The pain also worsens at night and when the weather is cold. Satellite pain is felt in tissues surrounding the affected shoulder, including the neck and back. Because of this, the patient cannot sleep well. Chronic fatigue sets in, the patient becomes depressed due to the suffering, the immune system is weakened and other complications arise.

When frozen shoulder occurs spontaneously even without any trigger it is known as idiopathic frozen shoulder. Other factors that are often connected to it are extended immobility of the shoulder due to trauma, injury or recent surgery. Sometimes, in a patient with an autoimmune disorder, the body’s own immune system attacks the shoulder capsule tissues and creates adhesions. Also at high risk are patients suffering from connective tissue disorders, rheumatic disease, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, lung disease, heart disease and patients who have recently had a stroke.

People in high risk conditions can prevent the onset of frozen shoulder by never allowing the shoulders to become immobile for extended periods of time. Massage and exercise should be used to put the shoulders through their full range of motion regularly. Massage and physical therapy may also stop the progress of the condition if used just as the pain has begun to set in.

In full blown cases of frozen shoulder, though, treatment can be too painful without pain relief medication such as analgesics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and steroids. In extreme cases, anesthetics may be needed. With the inflammation under control and the pain masked, the shoulder tissues can be manipulated and stretched though massage therapy and physical therapy in order to break up the adhesions and scar tissues.

Various therapeutic massage modalities such as reflexology massage therapy, deep tissue massage therapy, sports massage therapy and Swedish massage therapy may be used to prevent frozen shoulder or alleviate its pain once it has set in. Even pregnant women may get frozen shoulder and in such cases, pregnancy massage therapy may be used. Any of these massage therapy modalities should be done only by professional massage therapists, though. Ensure this by going only to a reputable professional therapeutic massage spa in Anonka County, Minneapolis, St Paul and Blaine MN.
